Vacuum Source Selection: Pressure, Airflow and the Workpiece

Select the vacuum source together with the head and workpiece. Pressure difference and airflow describe different requirements; neither alone proves a complete lifting system is suitable.

Do not mix the units or measurement locations

Compressed-air inlet pressure describes the supply to an air-powered device. It is not the negative pressure at the suction head. For example, a stated 0.6–0.8 MPa air supply must not be presented as a vacuum level. Identify the location and reference for each reading.

Quantity

What it helps establish

Vacuum/pressure difference

The pressure condition available at the approved contact.

Airflow

The source’s ability to move air, relevant to leakage and system behaviour.

Supply pressure or electrical supply

Whether the source can be operated from the available utility.

Hose and filter arrangement

The actual path connecting source, controls and head.

Workpiece permeability

Whether the specified contact and source can maintain the required condition.

Test the complete contact arrangement

Use the representative workpiece, specified head, hose and filtration. Record the operating conditions and the observed indication throughout the agreed movement. Testing a source alone cannot prove a package or rough surface will be held by the completed lifting system.

Choose a replacement source carefully

A source with a larger catalogue flow figure does not automatically increase the lifting rating or correct a poor seal. Match the equipment function, supply, controls and approved interfaces before replacement. Keep any change in operating limits documented.

Information for a source or head review

  • Equipment and existing source identification.
  • Actual workpiece samples or surface/permeability information.
  • Head/pad arrangement, hose dimensions and filter details.
  • Available power or compressed-air supply.
  • Vacuum indication and symptoms during the intended handling cycle.

Meaning

ETJSB-Q500-B3M — Pneumatic Jib Crane Vacuum Lifting System

0.6–0.8 MPa

Compressed-air supply to the pneumatic system.

ET-CL-ROOF-1000 — Roof & Wall Sandwich Panel Vacuum Lifter

−85 kPa maximum vacuum; 60 L/min maximum pump flow.

Pressure and flow are separate source specifications, not a combined lifting rating.

ETJSV300-250 — Vacuum Tube Lifter

3,000 / 4,000 W source options.

Electrical power choice for the documented tube-lifter configuration, not a universal airflow requirement.

Maximum source pressure and maximum flow may not occur at the same operating point. Ask for the applicable source information and test the completed arrangement at the specified conditions rather than combining separate maxima into an assumed performance point.

Make a leakage-related support request useful

Record whether the issue follows a material batch, a head change or a service action. Include the installed hose and filter identity and the stage at which the indication changes. Have the system assessed using its approved procedure; do not remove a filter or defeat monitoring to obtain a better reading.
