Vacuum Lifter Pre-Use Check and Service Records

Prepare a vacuum lifter pre-use check and service record. Record equipment condition, pad and hose observations, alarms and outstanding defects against the manual.

Use the instructions for the installed model

This checklist organizes an equipment record. The actual check method, acceptance values and maintenance intervals come from the instructions for the model and configuration in use.

Before the handling task

Record heading

What to document

Equipment/configuration

Model, identity, head/frame, pad arrangement and any approved accessories.

Workpiece

Material, weight, geometry and permitted lifting face/orientation.

Contact and connections

Condition of the pads/seals, hoses and connections as prescribed.

Controls and indication

Results of the specified control, indication and alarm checks.

Support and travel area

Applicable crane/host arrangement, clearances and placement area.

Defects and release to use

Observed issue, action, responsible person and the required confirmation before further operation.

Keep different records distinct

A pre-use observation, planned maintenance and a statutory examination serve different purposes. Date and identify each record, retain the associated instructions and document defects and corrective actions. Determine the applicable examination requirements for the equipment and jurisdiction instead of using a universal annual interval.

After a change or abnormal event

Record replaced components, changed pad/head arrangements and any incident or unexpected behaviour. Determine the required review and checks before returning the equipment to use. A configuration change must not silently inherit the previous limits.

Standards and jurisdiction: request the applicable edition

ASME B30.20 covers below-the-hook lifting devices, including provisions for inspection, testing, maintenance and operation. BS EN 13155 addresses non-fixed load lifting attachments; the BSI listing identifies BS EN 13155:2020+A1:2025. Determine which requirements and edition apply to the supplied configuration and destination.

A standards title on a website is not a conformity claim. Request the applicable equipment documents and specified test/examination procedure. This selection checklist does not reproduce the standards or prescribe a universal proof load, vacuum hold time or annual interval.

Keep an auditable inspection entry

Entry

Example of the information to retain

Identification

Date, equipment model/serial, current tool and operator or inspector.

Applicable procedure

Instruction revision and the check being performed.

Result

Actual observation or reading against the specified acceptance criterion.

Defect action

Description, equipment status and responsible person.

Release

Required repair/check completed, record reference and authorized release.

A tick box alone cannot explain a failed check. Keep the reading or observation and the action together. This record format supplies no substitute acceptance pressure, test load or service interval.
