A sheet loading station for laser cutting

Plan a laser-cutting sheet loading station around sheet dimensions, stack height and machine clearance. Review pad support and the complete suspended load.

Plan a sheet-loading station

This is a planning example, not a completed customer installation or a claimed performance result. Use it to build the requirement sheet for your own workstation.

Stage

Decision and deliverable

Pickup

Map the sheet stack, formats, surface condition and available contact zones.

Support and transfer

Choose the pad/frame layout, review sheet deflection and include the lifting-frame weight in support selection.

Machine approach

Check table travel, guards, approach direction and the space needed to position the frame.

Placement and release

Define how the sheet is supported on the machine before release and how the lifter withdraws.

Acceptance

Use representative sheet extremes and state whether separation or double-sheet detection is part of the supplied system.

Prepare the project review

Send a layout, representative workpiece details and the required movements. Identify existing equipment that must be retained, available utilities and the destination. The final proposal must name the selected configuration, interfaces, operating conditions and agreed acceptance scope.

These frames have the same stated workpiece and equipment dimensions, but different rated loads and net equipment weights. Check the smallest sheet as well as the largest: the frame must fit the available contact area and support flexible sheet without blocking access to the machine.

A useful machine-interface drawing

  • Show stack corners, pickup height and the farthest sheet edge.
  • Draw the loading table in every required travel position, with guards and obstructions.
  • Add the frame footprint, hook/hoist allowance and operator standing position.
  • Show where the sheet rests before release and where the empty frame parks.

Record the outcome of each representative cycle

Trial item

Record

Workpiece

Material, dimensions, thickness, mass and surface condition.

Pickup

Selected pad layout and confirmation that the required sheet is acquired.

Transfer

Required path and clearance to machine/guards.

Release

Stable support and clearance for frame withdrawal.

Cycle

Full task time, interruptions and any agreed separation/detection result.

Do not treat a quoted lifting speed as the station cycle time. Stack access, contact preparation, machine readiness and release all contribute.
